Compton, Calif. - Freshman Adrian Valtierra went 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles, but the Compton baseball team fell 10-8 to San Diego City (1-2) on Thursday afternoon.
Valtierra tallied a walk in his other plate appearance, earning a RBI in his first at bat and recording five putouts and an assist behind the dish.
Freshman designated hitter Billy Sanchez went 3-for-4 on the day with three RBI and a walk.
The Tartars fell behind early, facing a 4-0 deficit before a scoring the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth to take a 8-4 lead. San Diego chipped away at the lead in the seventh, scoring on a balk, before retaking the lead in the top of the ninth.
On the mound, freshman Edson Ruiz (0-1) was the pitcher of record after throwing 0.2 innings. Matthew Hills earned the save for the Knights.
The Tartars (0-3) head out on the road next, facing Oxnard on Tuesday, Feb. 6 at 2 p.m.
