Compton, Calif. - Freshman Billy Sanchez went 2-for-3 with three runs and a RBI as the Tartar baseball team earned its first win of the season in the form of a 7-5 victory over Victor Valley on Thursday evening.
Sanchez scored the first run of the game off a RBI-double by sophomore Alexandro Rodriguez. Rodriguez would later socre the go-ahead run on a sacrifice fly to right field by freshman Julian Sansores in the fifth inning. Rodriguez and freshman catcher Adrian Valtierra both earned two-RBI outings.
Freshman lefty Andy Rosales earned the win after throwing 5.1 innings, allowing only two runs off three hits, while fanning nine.
The Tartars improve to 1-7 on the season, while the Rams drop to 3-7.
Compton continues its homestand by hosting Grossmont on Saturday, Feb. 17 at 1 p.m.
