Compton, Calif. - Freshman Mike Hernandez went 2-for-4 with three RBI and a run as the Compton baseball team put out the Porterville Pirates, 8-4, on Wednesday evening.
Hermandez's hits were both doubles, adding a sacrifice fly. Freshman Kevin Smith added to the efforts with two doubles of his own on his 2-for-4 outing with a RBI and two runs. Sophomore Alexandro Rodriguez rounded out the players with multi-hits with a 2-for-3 effort with two runs and a RBI.
On the bump, freshman Jose Montalvo (1-0) posted the win, throwing 6.2 innings with three strikeouts. Freshman Cory Bradley recorded his first save of the season on a one-hit, two-strikeout outing over 2.1 innings.
The Tartar baseball team (5-9) hosts its first conference match-up against Rio Hondo on Thursday, Mar. 1 at 2 p.m.
