Corey Guy Named 2026 Pre-Season Baseball All-American; Coyotes Move 5 To Next Level
Compton College's baseball team moved five players from the 2025 squad to universities while returning sophomore Corey Guy was honored as a 2026 CCCBCA Pre-Season All-American.
Guy, an infielder-outfielder, batted .328 as a freshman with 20 RBI. He tied for the South Coast Conference lead with 16 stolen bases and his seven doubles were second on the Coyotes.
Long-time Compton head coach Shannon Williams announced his scholarship signings at the next level led by All-SCC Second Team outfielder/first baseman in Deegan Grgas, who will be playing his junior season at NCAA Division II Cal State Dominguez Hills.
Grgas finished second in the SCC's overall batting race with a .408 average to go with 15 doubles and 28 RBI, both team highs. Grgas also led Compton in hits (58), runs scored (30), on-base percentage (.485) and slugging percentage (.563).

Other Coyotes moving to 4-year universities were catcher-first baseman Nathan Dodero (.368, 12 RBI last season) transferred to NAIA Tabor College (Kansas), and pitchers Joseph Stangl (D2 New Mexico Highlands), Matthew Torres (D2 Northern State University of South Dakota), and Elijah Belden (D2 Truman State, Missouri).
Torres pitched a '25 team-high 43.1 innings, leading the team also in mound wins (three) and strikeouts (39). Belden hurled 40.1 innings and earned two victories. Stangl was a state All-Academic Team student-athlete who carried a 3.6 GPA.
Compton's 2026 baseball season begins on Friday, Jan. 23 at Ventura College. The Coyotes first home game at its MLB Youth Academy diamon is slated for Tuesday, Jan. 27 v. Grossmont. The 24-game, SCC schedule begins on Feb. 17 with a 3-game series against El Camino.
