Compton Walks Off Taft In Back‑and‑Forth Thriller
Compton erased an early 4–0 deficit and won 7–6 on a ninth‑inning walk‑off to cap a back‑and‑forth battle
The Coyotes fell behind early, as two sacrifice flies and an error helped Taft build a 4–0 lead after two innings. Freshman starter Naeem Parra settled in from there, putting up four straight scoreless frames to keep the Coyotes within striking distance.
Compton chipped away quickly, scoring in the second and third on RBI plays from Jeremiah Lennear and Corey Guy to cut the deficit to 4–2. The Coyotes broke through in the fourth, rallying with two outs for three runs. Consecutive RBI hits from Jaidon Carter, Amaree Burnett, and Matthew Marroquin flipped the game and gave Compton its first lead at 5–4.
Taft tied the game in the seventh on a sacrifice bunt, but Compton answered in the bottom half with an RBI single from Noah Gomez to regain a 6–5 advantage. Taft pulled even again in the eighth, sending the game to the ninth tied at 6.
Jesse Cabrera took the mound for Compton in the ninth and delivered a scoreless inning. The Coyotes opened the bottom half with a walk and a stolen base from sophomore Corey Guy , followed by a sacrifice bunt and two intentional walks to load the bases. With the game on the line, Compton sent up pinch-hitter Nathan Baca, who delivered a walk‑off line drive up the middle, sealing a 7–6 victory and completing the comeback.
Parra finished his outing with seven innings pitched, allowing only four earned runs after the early damage. Cabrera earned the win with his scoreless ninth. Offensively, freshman Jaidon Carter led the way with three hits and an RBI, while Compton also received multi‑hit performances from Amaree Burnett, Corey Guy, Jason Torres, Nolan Jackson, and Noah Gomez.
