Velez, Garcia Chosen To All-SCC Softball Team
Serena Velez became a 2-time First Team selection and Audrey Garcia was selected Second Team as they were the Compton College choices on the All-South Coast Conference Softball Team.
Velez, a sophomore first baseman, led the team in doubles (nine), home runs (three), RBI (28), and slugging percentage (.559) while batting .363. She started in all 38 games by Compton this season and led the team defense in putouts with 252 (.981 fielding percentage).
The sophomore Garcia, a catcher, led Compton in batting with a .414 average, hits (46) and on-base percentage (.445) to go with seven doubles and 13 RBI. She finished tied for sixth among all conference hitters.
Defensively, the strong-armed Garcia gunned out eight baserunners trying to steal and had a sparkling .991 fielding percentage.
Compton received three All-SCC honorable mentions, all freshmen in pitcher-infielder Johanna Vidales, pitcher-outfielder Lauren Kleib, and middle infielder Laila Davila.
While Compton missed out on a SoCal Regional Playoff spot after making it last season, head coach Victoria Castillo's squad placed fifth for the second straight year in the difficult, 9-team SCC (the top four teams all were top seven seeds), sporting a 10-14 conference record.
The squad actually finished with more South Coast wins than the '24 season when it was 9-12 in a then, 8-team conference race.
