Softball's Velez To Play/Attend Concordia University Irvine

Compton College softball's Serena Velez, a 2-time, All-South Coast Conference First Team selection, earned a playing scholarship to attend NCAA Division II Concordia University Irvine.

Velez, a sophomore first baseman in 2025, led the team in doubles (nine), home runs (three), RBI (28), and slugging percentage (.559) while batting .363.

She started in all 38 games by Compton this past season and led the team defense in putouts with 252 (.981 fielding percentage). 

In 2023 as a freshman, Velez batted .440 and helped Compton to reach the SoCal Regional Playoffs. She played at Compton under head coach Victoria Castillo. 

Velez was both the Compton College 2024-25 Female Athlete of the Year for all sports and the Female Academic-Athlete of the Year with a 3.9 GPA.
