Brent Named Co-Coach Of Year, 4 Women's Basketball Players Selected All-SCC South
After a turnaround season, the Compton College women's basketball team received the news that Ollie Brent was named Co-South Coast Conference South Division Coach of the Year while four players were chosen All-Conference.
In his first season at Compton, Brent directed the Coyotes to a tie for second place in the SCC South (5-4 record) with LA Southwest and the team's 12 victories was 10 more than the previous season.
State-leading rebounder and freshman forward Allahya Drakes and frosh guard Marylou Davis were chosen All-SCC First Team while first-year guards Kaniya Madlock and Amiah Honores were placed on the Second Team.
Drakes averaged 16.4 rebounds and 11.1 points as the 5-foot-10 post player pulled down at least 20 boards in seven contests. Her high was 27 rebounds in a December victory over Southwestern.
Davis led the squad in scoring this season at 15.8 points per game and also paced the Coyotes in steals (2.2), added 6.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists averages to her well-rounded game. She scored a team season-high 37 points in a win over LA Southwest on Feb. 4.
Madlock averaged 9.4 points and dished out 4.2 helpers a game. Honores tallied at a 6.7 points rate.
