Bio
Christiana Layne arrives at Compton College for her first season on the women’s basketball assistant coaching staff."Tre
"Tre" Layne previously served as an assistant coach at Harvard-Westlake High, where she helped guide the program to the prep Sweet Sixteen and Elite Eight, finishing second in conference, 15th in the state, and posting an impressive 24–8 record. Known for her defensive intensity and player development expertise, she played a key role in strategy, scouting, and building team culture.
Coach Brent said of Layne, "Coach Tre is a passionate, player-first coach whose energy, discipline, and attention to detail have made her one of the bright emerging leaders in Southern California women’s basketball. She brings a holistic approach to coaching—developing the mind, body, and character of every student-athlete she has coached."
Her coaching journey also includes impactful stops at Inglewood High, where she served as both JV head coach and varsity assistant, and at Valley Christian Middle School as girls varsity basketball and softball coach. Across each program, Layne has been recognized for her ability to connect with players, teach fundamentals, and inspire teamwork and sportsmanship.
Layne is not only a motivator but also a mentor—believing that discipline and character are just as vital as points and rebounds. Her background in performance analysis, academic support, and motivational training makes her a well-rounded leader on and off the floor.
A Drew League Foundation scholar and honor-roll graduate from Lynwood High (4.0 GPA), she went on to attend Long Beach City College, where she earned her A.A. degree, and continuing her studies at Simpson University.
