Bio

Ollie Brent, twice a South Coast Conference Coach of the Year at Long Beach City College, begins his first season as head coach for the Coyotes women's basketball team in 2025-26.

In 2019-20, Brent directed the Vikings to a 10-0 record and the SCC South Division championship. LBCC finished at 20-9, earned a playoff berth and was anked No. 14 in the state. After the pandemic shut down the '20-21 season, Brent and his Vikings came back to win two more South Coast titles in the '21-22 and '22-23 seasons. 

From 2014-19, Brent served as an assitant coach for Long Beach as those Vikings teams totaled a 116-60 winning record (.659). Long Beach won four conference crowns and reached the Regional Playoffs five straight seasons. Brent's post-development program helped him transfer three post players to NCAA Division 1 universities; Darshana Taafua and Miranda Martinez, both to Long Beach State, and Jessica Njoku at Florida A&M. Brent played a major role in the recruiting, game preparation, and reveiwing opponent's videos to break down game strategy. 

Prior to coming to LBCC, Brent was head varsity coach at Compton High in 2011-2013. Brent took over a struggling program that went 5-54 the previous three year to respectability team at 38-32 (.542) in his three seasons. In that span, Brent received the Harry J. Moore Coach of the Year Award, won two holiday tournaments, made it to the CIF quarterfinals playoffs. He developed five student-athletes that made All-League First Team. 

In 2009, Brent served one season as coach for LA Harbor College men's basketball team team, finishing 12-14. Brent assisted in practices, and conditioning, while helping develop the squad's post players.      

Brent founded Inner City Elites, which was a youth basketball organization targeted at inner city, underprivileged kids, particularly within the Inglewood/Los Angeles area. This program helped local youth to build the fundamental skills needed to succeed both on and off the court. Coach Brent has also served as a camp instructor at Point Guard College since 2010, the Magic Johnson Camp (1994-1997) and the John Wooden Basketball Clinic (1996-1997).

As a player himself, Brent attended Crenshaw High, where he won three Los Angeles City Championships and two state titles with a record of 77-11 (.875), under basketball legendary coach, Willie West. Brent was recognized with the Outstanding Student Athlete award three years in a row.  During that span, he competed against future NBA players in Baron Davis, Lamar Odom, Tayshaun Prince, Ron Mercer, and Stephen Jackson.

He transferred to play at Metropolitan State College of Denver, where he played under former NBA Coach Mike Dunlap. Brent contributed to the team's advancement to the NCAA Division II Sweet Sixteen. After Brent's freshman year, he transferred to Prairie View A&M University to play under Coach Elwood Plummer. Brent was involved in a severe car accident which ended his playing career. The tragic event would ignite his passion for coaching and mentoring the youth.

Brent earned a master’s degree in education from California State Dominguez Hills, his bachelor's in interdisciplinary education from Prairie View A&M University. He then served four years in the U.S. Army Reserves..
