Compton Men's Soccer Gets Past Imperial Valley
The Compton College men's soccer team returned to the win column with a 2-1 victory at Imperial Valley on Sept. 24.
The Coyotes are 3-5 overall to start the 2025 season under head coach Jose Garcia as they prepare for the always tough South Coast Conference portion of the schedule.
Against IVC, sophomore forward Geovani Camacho erased a 1-0 deficit with a goal in the 65th minute, assisted by freshman midfielder Mauricio Parra. Just five minutes later, Compton collected the game-winning goal by first-year midfielder Angel Gallardo as Camacho fed him the setup for his shot.
Goalie Alessandro Martinez, a 2024 All-SCC Second Team selection, made three saves.
The Coyotes return All-SCC First Team forward Edu Beltran, who led the team last season in scoring (seven goals, five assists) and also are paced by sophomore centerback defender and team captain Jovanny Lopez-Sotelo as well as frosh center midfielder David Najarro.
Overall, Compton has brought back nine players from a program that earned the No. 22 seed in last season's Southern California Regional Playoffs.
On Sept. 12, Compton blanked visiting Citrus, 2-0, behind goals by Camacho and frosh forward Edwin Marcial. The Coyotes had their '25 season and home opener called due to excessive heat, then played on Aug. 27 at Southwestern, defeating the Jaguars, 3-2, behind goals by Camacho and freshman defender Diego Anthony Mendez.
On Tuesday, Oct. 7, the Coyotes begin the 9-game conference schedule as they host LA Harbor in a 1:30 p.m. game time.
