Compton Falls to Santa Ana 11–6 in Hard‑Fought Battle
Compton showed plenty of resilience on Thursday, battling back multiple times before ultimately falling to Santa Ana 11–6 in a hard‑fought matchup at home.
Compton was faced with a tough challenge, falling behind 3-0 in the 1st against Santa Ana. Sophomore Destiny Munguia started the Compton half with a lead off single, a stolen base and eventually scoring on a fielder's choice. The Coyotes continued to battle in the 2nd when Caitlyn Cox lined an RBI single to left to cut the deficit to 1.
After Santa Ana's five‑run third inning, the Coyotes refused to fold. Compton punched right back with a rally of their own. Venezia Uribe, Amy Duarte, and Cheyenne Prado all reached, setting up RBIs from Billie Muro and Avigail Navarro to trim the gap to 8–4. After allowing 2 more runs in the 4th, Compton kept the fight alive with two more runs of their own
In the 6th the Coyotes were looking to do more damage, loading the bases with 2 outs. Unfortunately, Compton was unable to capitalize, finishing the game with 6 runs on 10 hits.
Sophomore Johanna Vidales came into relief in the 3rd, and ended up finishing the game with seven strikeouts over 5 innings of work. Offensively, freshmen Caitlyn Cox and Avigail Navarro both had multi-hit performances.
The Coyotes return to conference play Thursday the 26th, when they take on Mt. San Antonio College at home at 2 PM.
