Coach Ollie Brent Era In Compton Women's Basketball Starts With A Victory
A three-time South Coast Conference champion head coach at Long Beach City College, Ollie Brent took over the Compton College women's basketball program as head coach for the 2025-26 season. Driving to instill a winning attitude for the Coyotes, Brent directed his squad to a hard-fought, 49-46, season-opening victory at LA Mission on Saturday.
Compton (1-0) ran out to an 11-5 lead after one quarter, then extended it to 25-13 by halftime. The Coyotes held off a late charge by LA Mission, but never lost the lead in completing the victory.
Top freshman Marylou Davis, a 5-foot-8 guard from a successful Eisenhower High program near Seattle, Wash., poured in 23 points (made 5-for-6 from free throw line) and grabbed 12 rebounds. Another freshman talent is 5-10 forward Allahya Drakes (Community Harvest Charter), who came off the bench to score 11 points and pull down an impressive 18 rebounds.
Compton's starting five for the opener included redshirt sophomore guard Alaysia Townsend, who returned after playing in the 2023-24 season, and freshmen in guards Amiah Honores and Andrea Hinton along with 5-10 forward Rachel Fraser, who atttended high school in Sasebo, Japan. Hinton (six rebounds) and Honores each scored five points v. LA Mission.
DeArviana Watts, an All-SCC South Second Team selection as a freshman, returns from the 2024-25 squad. The 5-6 guard averaged 4.6 points and 7.2 rebounds a game.
First-year guards Deja Ford and Kaniyah Madlock are also expected to play this season.
Compton will take part in a 26-game schedule with SCC South Division play not beginning until Jan. 21, 2026 in a home game v. El Camino.
Next Coyotes game is next Saturday, Nov. 8 in a 3 p.m. contest at Oxnard. On Wednesday, Dec. 3, Compton plays at home for the first time in a 5 p.m. tip-off, also v. Oxnard.
